AD Police Files is a three-part OVA which serves as a prequel to the anime series Bubblegum Crisis, produced by Artmic and AIC. Set five years before the events of Bubblegum Crisis, this series showcases three early cases of the AD Police and features the origin of Bubblegum Crisis supporting character Leon McNichol. AD Police Files is much darker and more adult in tone than Bubblegum Crisis, and some fans are less fond of it.

However, it has proven popular enough to create several spin-off manga, such as AD Police 25:00, and a television series titled AD Police: To Serve and Protect — although the television series has little to do with the OVA, and is often mistaken for a prequel for the series Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 (regardless of their completely different interpretations of Genom).
