Cardcaptor Sakura (more commonly known as Cardcaptors in English episodes) is an anime show that consists of 70 episodes and 2 movies. The theme focuses on a ten year old girl, Sakura Kinomoto (Sakura Avalon) who stumbles across an old book in her father's study, opening it and releasing all 52 Clow Cards into Tomoeda, the town in Japan where she lives. Upon opening it, she discovers what looks like a little plush toy, Keroberos, who, with the power of Clow Reed, ancient master of the Clow Cards, can transform into his more powerful tiger-like form. Without this power, however, he is stuck inside his plush toy form, affectionately known as Kero, and demands that Sakura must get the cards back. And so begins the journey. Over a large number of episodes, Sakura develops her cardcaptor powers, capturing each wayward card one by one. Along the way her second cousin and best friend, Tomoyo Daidouji, helps her by creating Sakura's flambouyant costumes and filming every battle on her beloved video camera. Sakura also encounters her first 'opponent', Syaoran Li, a descendant of Clow Reed, who fights her constantly for the cards he believes are rightfully his. Li, however, has his own powers, so it's not like he ever needed the power. He simply believed they belonged to him. It's not until later in the series that Sakura learns that she must meet with the mysterious Yue, who, unlike Kero, draws his power from the moon, not the sun. He does not need Clow Reed to give him the power to transform, and by day he disguises himself as Sakura's older brother, Touya's, best friend, Yukito. Sakura and Syaoran must face Yue, the other guardian of the Clow Cards, Kero being the other. While Kero is the one who elects a new master for the cards, Yue tests them in what as known as 'The Final Judgement'. When Sakura captures the last Clow Card, one of the four elemental cards, Earth, Yue makes his appearance, demanding that both Syaoran and Sakura fight him, using their magic and the cards, so that he may determine which is the rightful Master of the Cards. The cards that are known to be under Yue's juristiction, therefore meaning they have no effect on him, are Dark, Water, Wind, Wood and Time. None of these cards pose a threat to him, as both Syaoran and Sakura discover when the fight him. Sakura is deemed, after a fierce battle, the rightful Mistress of the Cards. She is then put to the test to use her magic to transfer all of them into Sakura Cards before Tomoeda falls beneath the new threat, the re-incarnation of Clow Reed, known to Syaoran and Sakura as Eriol Hiiragizawa, the new student at their school. Later in this season, Syaoran falls in love with Sakura, and spends most of the season trying to figure out a way to tell her.
