[edit] Time

Code Geass is set in the year 2018 in the artificial calendar of the show, which is estimated at about 2060 AD on our time. The timeline of the show begins in the year 2017 of their time, and spans the entirety of about two or three years.

[edit] Places

  • The Holy Britannian Empire* - A wide spans of land owned only by England / Britain, and is the leading world power of the show, which is often described as being inhabited by snobs and prejudice nobles who care only for their own sakes. (This is stereotypical of renaissance Europe, during the explorational period). Britannia has conquered all of europe and both Americas which don't seem heavily influenced by their conquerers. The middle east is a recent addition upon the shows start up, and it is shown on maps throughout the show that Africa is almost completely owned by the empire. About seven of their years prior to the beginning of the show, Japan became occupied by Britannians and was thereof conquered harshly.
  • Chinese Federation* - A world power, just below Britannia in every aspect, but the primary source used throughout the anime to draw out the cruelty of their counterparts. The Empire owns about all of Asia, not including the middle east, and parts of Africa. The government is run by an underaged empress who is constantly bossed around by a team of eight ruling governors whose primary goal is to stay in power, and make a killing; killing their citizens in the process.
  • Tokyo Settlement* - a high-tech city build on top of the ghettoes of old Tokyo to insure the control of Britannia over Japan, and the central setting of the show's plot. The city is a paradise for Britannian citizens and a work house of slavery to the many Japanese folk who are forced to live in the surrounding ghettoes. The settlement is most focused in on the school where Lelouch, now seen as a high school student, attends and does business of things most sinister.
  • Aschford Academy* - The private high school, in which Lelouch vi Britannia attends under the last name alias of Lamperouge. All other characters are seen at this setting at some point, one way or another.

[edit] Plot

Code Geass is a science fiction, political, and "play-acting-god" genre-style anime, in which a rogue prince desires the demise of his original home, out of rage over their lack of care for him or his now crippled younger sister.

Events that preceded the shows beginning are seen as flash backs and the opening scene, and are tense moments throughout. Such flashbacks are also used to explain plot developments proceeding their completion, which is a method used in Death Note as well. Prior to the shows start, Lelouch vi Britannia and his sister, Nannely v Britannia lived with their strict father, and caring, as well as military trained, mother in the capitol city of the Holy Britannian Empire. When Lelouch was ten, and Nannely was six their mother was repeatedly shot to death, which was a staged assassination to proceed in the emperor's plans. Ultimately, Nannely was caught in the fire and could no longer walk due to shots, and was supposedly blinded from trauma. Lelouch became angry that his father did nothing to solve the murder and renounced his anointment to the throne, and he was thereof placed in the Aschford's care in Japan, as well as his sister. They were given a maid, Sayoko Shinozaki, to assist with the care of Nannely, and they lived simply in hiding for seven years to come. In this time Suzaku Kurarugi, became friends with Lelouch, but they were separated from each other because of the war, which ended Japan's existence in 2011 in the given calendar. The area's name became "Area 11" as a mocking gesture to the month long defeat of the nation.

Now the show really begins and Lelouch is seen as a high school student with a knack for gambling high on chess games, an IQ well exceeding a genius and a hatred for all things higher in rank or social class than him. He's generally caring and hopeful, but lazy, but has a dark desire to kill anything and everything that once polluted the world with lies and anarchy, ultimately wanting global dominance and peace proceeding. He comes close to death when accidently trapped by terrorists and confronted by the Britannian military as an involved person. He shakes fearfully, not understanding why they are being so brutal, at which point a girl with green hair blocks a coming bullet to prevent Lelouch from taking it. She's declared dead, but moves after the shock, bleeding from the head, and kissed Lelouch romantically announcing a contract that will allow him to live. She collapses and Lelouch opens his eyes to reveal a bird shaped, pink and crimson ires that releases as a mind control device to force those before him to obey. He announces his real name in a command and orders the guards to commit suicide which they do with glee.

Lelouch escapes to a fallen building and leads the terrorists in a fight to win, but it ends in a draw when Suzaku appears in a new knightmare. (The primary weapon in the show is a semi-human mecha-robot that is called a knightmare frame, which vary in abilities and size, even color, and camera head design, to look like power ranger robots, but for one person). Lelouch retreats where the girl, revealing herself to be known as C.C. (said as C2) meets up with him, and apparently stays the night, claiming that the contract must keep her close to the current user of Geass.

No one has a clue what actually happened to Lelouch as he organizes the terrorists into an underground empire, experimenting with his new power to see it's power and limits. ("I can only use it on one person once, and if it's optical I can refract it. My range is about 250 meters, and the time limit is not specifiable." -Lelouch to C2). Lelouch becomes "Zero" a CEO figure for the "Black Knights" the recently organized terrorist group, which he intends to use to take back Japan, and following that, the world. Over a series of failed, but awesome and press-loved battles, Lelouch is given up to the emperor where it is revealed that he too has geass and can wipe the memory of his victims, making Lelouch harmless for a year.

Once Lelouch, now convinced to have a brother, and that his other sister, Euphemia, is not his sister, and is evil, and with Nannely in unknown care Lelouch regains memories through an invasion of the Black Knights that ultimately leads to the recap of the first season up to the cliff-hanger that was superiorly hard to grasp as said by many fans, wanting the next season before many many other anime proceedings.

Similar sequences of battles as seen in Season One occur, but Lelouch succeeds in destroying the order of geass used to manufacture geass-users and is a primary source of antagonist involvements. The Emperor used the order to complete his goal of ending the world and becoming immortal.

Lelouch is trapped by the black knights and is saved by Rolo, prior to his death by means of geass and his step-brother dies of heart failure due to pressure of using the time freezing geass. Lelouch then removes his now seen as evil mother, and his father from existence and ends their goal to end the world, making himself the next emperor by military law. While Suzaku had made himself Lelouch's enemy throughout the series they team up to finally have global peace. Lelouch will die by Suzaku's hand for using geass on Euphemia and Lelouch promises to give Suzaku the geass of wishes, meaning to bring peace and reconstruction to the world.

After using his own knightmare and Suzaku's help to break through an opposing fortress which bares bombs of climatic destruction, He takes the controls for himself, thus unifying the world. Two months later, Suzaku shows as the new Zero and he kills Lelouch by his private command which completes the bitter-sweet ending to the plans of Lelouch, which set's Nannely free, and the world in a peaceful motion.

[edit] Characters

[edit] Lelouch vi Britannia

Alias is Lamperouge, and is the CEO of the black knights, known as Zero. His IQ is well over genius and his geass is able to control anyone for anything, but with the restrictions of what that person can do themselves. Ultimately he's guessed to be evil, but it's just a guise to hide his desires for peace, through "The Zero Requiem" a plan that will send Lelouch to his grave by means taking hatred with him in a fantastic murder.

[edit] Nannaly vi Britannia

Though geass was what truly blinded her, she was originally a source of pity and sorrow for being so ill suited and helpless, even unable to move without assistance. Just a caring young girl, whose usually seen with her maid, Sayoko Nannely is generally quite and serious, hoping not to be misled by those who guide her around, physically, and emotionally.

[edit] Suzaku Kurarugi

A knight class citizen who pilots a white frame and is considered the best pilot, only to have officially lost once, to the best of the best from the black knights He's serious and spiteful of Lelouch after the war for using geass on Euphemia, but ultimately forgives him for the sake of peace.

[edit] Euphemia li Britannia

Lelouch's partial sister, and a naive person who wants a similar peace as Lelouch, but typically goes about getting there in a more press-related manner Known for her pink hair and peppy nature, and is the most relevant victim of Lelouch's geass, accidentally being ordered to kill thousands which conflicted with her natural will (It was hinted that she shared sexual relations with Lelouch on an island rumored to possess godly powers, but nothing was definitely given to the viewers as a strong hint).

[edit] Kallen Kozaki

Ace, female, knight of the black knights, and hung up on killing any stuck up Britannian, which includes over 90% of their population She's often seen in tight clothes, mostly red, and has giant breasts. She's typically serious, but unable to keep a straight face being the most often victim to "fan service" She's the best pilot of a frame in the show

[edit] Charles zi Britannia

The cruel emperor and primary antagonist of the show.

[edit] Sayoko Shinozaki

The most conservative and hidden female character. Though her role as Nannely's maid is minor, she appears often in frame (non-speaking) roles. She is likely the best hand-to-hand fighter in the show being given the title by fans as "Ninja Maid" and a joke is to compare her athletic intents to simulate her mast, who is the least capable of the bunch. she's best described as chivalrous.

[edit] Geass itself

The Origin is most likely an Irish and Latin root that literally means to have absolute control, which is followed by the command of what the user controls.
