[edit] Plot

The MapleStory anime is loosely based on the popular MMORPG MapleStory. It follows the adventures of a young boy who sets off to be a great warrior with his friends, including Kino the orange mushroom.

[edit] Characters

Al- The main protagonist of the show. He is a warrior from ellinia and the son of the great warrior Grande. He is often seen pulling a large stone behind him. He loves random training, also. In the Japanese version of MapleStory (The Game) He can be found as an npc in Henesys for a limited time.

Nina- Al's friend and the strongest Magician in Seron Ellinia. She has a pet ribbon pig. In the japanese version of MapleStory (The Game) She can be found as an npc in Sleepywood for a limited time.

Kino- Al's pet mushroom. Based on the ingame monster Orange Mushroom. Kino can be bought as a pet in some versions of MapleStory.

Ariba- One of the main antagonists. He works for Krone and is based on the ingame monster Samiho.

Barrow- He is the leader of Seron Henesys. He fought alongside Al's father Grande. Resembles the ingame character Meerkat.

Krone- The second main antagonist. Ariba works for her. She is a mysterious character that resembles the ingame monster Lucida.

Puudou- Nina's pet. Based on the ingame monster Ribbon Pig. Quite clumsy.

Gallus- The leader of Seron Perion. Based on the ingame monster muscle stone.

Anji- The Leader of Seron Kerning, based on the ingame character Wild Kargo. Not much is known about him except for the fact that he has connections to Grande.

Zakteman- The main antagonist of the series. Leader of the Zakums. Ariba and Krone work for him, and he resembles the ingame boss Ergoth.

Giru- A person who lives on Victoria Island as a monster hunter.

[edit] Differences

The anime and the game have many differences. For one, monsters are never the leaders of towns. The leaders for the different towns (in victoria) are The Night Lord, Athena Pierce, Grendel The Really Old, Dances With Balrog, and The Rememberer for Kerning, Henesys, Ellinia, Perion, and Sleepywood respectively. Another major difference is that all the main cities are located on Maple Island. In the game, Maple Island is the beginner island composed of approximately 10-15 maps for beginners to train in. Victoria Island is the island where Lith Harbor, Henesys, Ellinia, Sleepywood, Kerning, and Perion are located. In the show, the beginner cities Amherst and Southperry of Maple Island are completely eradicated, and the main cities of Victoria Island are moved there. They are also slightly renamed, having the word Seron added as a prefix to their names.

[edit] Ingame References

There are many ingame references to the MapleStory anime. Unfortunately, they are currently only in the Japanese version. One of the references is that in the Japanese cash shop, you can purchase an ingame pet version of Al's pet Kino. Another reference is that during certain times in the year, npc versions of Al and Nina will appear in Henesys and Sleepywood respectively.
