The year is "20XX" (I don't get it either) and it's the cyber age lan hikari gets a net navi (short for navigator) named megaman.

    Interesting note: in the original game Megaman was created by Dr. Light. in this series Megaman was created by Dr. hikari. In Japanese "Hikari" translates into "light"
