[edit] Where It Came From
Pokemon is an anime based off of the popular Game Boy games, Pokemon Red and Blue versions, created by Satoshi Tajiri.
[edit] Basics Of The Pokemon World
Pokemon are mysterious creatures that have special powers, mainly from the forces of nature. There are many known types of Pokemon:
-Water Types
-Fire Types
-Grass Types
-Electric Types
-Ice Types
-Ghost Types
-Bug Types
-Dark Types
-Steel Types
-Dragon Types
-Psychic Types
-Ground Types
-Rock Types
-Flying Types
-Normal Types
-Fighting Types
There are 493 known Pokemon. Some Pokemon grow up and evolve into other Pokemon. For example, one Pokemon called Pichu evolves into another Pokemon called Pikachu. Some Pokemon can only evolve under certain conditions. Example: a Pikachu would need a Thunderstone to evolve into Raichu. Also, a Pokemon can only evolve a maximum of two times. Some Pokemon only evolve once, and some don't evolve at all.
That takes care of the basics. Now, people who capture and train Pokemon are called Pokemon Trainers. A trainer recieves their first Pokemon on their tenth birthday. Pokemon can be captured using a Poke Ball. Trainers can have their Pokemon fight other trainers' Pokemon in what is called a Pokemon Battle. Pokemon Battles are very common in the everyday life of a trainer. Other types of trainers, known as coordinators, were introduced in the sixth year of the anime. Coordinators stray from the path of regular trainers and enter their Pokemon in Pokemon Contests, which show off the beauty of a Pokemon's moves in appeals and battles.
Right, almost forgot. Pokemon can learn special moves based on their types. Pikachu, for example, can learn an electric-type move called Thundershock considering it is an electric type Pokemon. There are four moves that are naturally instilled into a Pokemon, but it can learn new ones as it grows up. Some Pokemon only learn certain moves after they evolve. A Pokemon can only know four moves at a time.
Most Pokemon trainers enter Gym Battles, where they battle professional trainers, known as Gym Leaders, to earn a gym badge. There are eight gyms in each region of the Pokemon World. Once a trainer beats all eight Gym Leaders, he or she can enter the Pokemon League, a tournament of the best trainers in the region, who have also collected all of their badges.
Coordinators, on the other hand, compete in contests to earn ribbons. Once they earn five ribbons, they compete in a coordinator version of the Pokemon League, known as the Grand Festival.
There are 493 Pokemon discovered so far.
[edit] Anime(Spoilers)
The anime follows the story of Pokemon Trainer Ash Ketchum(also known as Satoshi in the Japanese version), who began his journey with his partner Pikachu. At first, Pikachu hated Ash. But after rescuing it and putting his life on the line for it, Pikachu saved Ash right back. Ash earned its trust and they became best friends. Now, Pikachu helps Ash out whenever he's in trouble, and he does the same.
Ash is on a journey to become the world's greatest Pokemon Master. Along the way, he met Misty(Kasumi) and Brock(Takeshi) while collecting Gym Badges in the Kanto Region and losing the Pokemon League. Misty went with him to the Orange Islands when he started a new adventure, since Brock couldn't come. There, they met Tracy Sketchit(Kenji) and Ash collected the four badges for the islands, and won the Orange League. He re-met Brock and the original three trainers left Tracey and went to the Johto region. Ash collected all badges again but lost the Johto League. He later re-met Gary and he told Ash that he should go to the Hoenn region and start all over again. So Ash got a new outfit and went to the Hoenn region with only Pikachu at his side. He met May(Haruka), a new trainer who later became a coordinator. Ash and May went to Petalburg City, where they met May's father, Norman, who was also the Gym Leader, and her younger brother, Max(Masato), who is too young to be a trainer yet(about eight years old) but is very intelligent about Pokemon. Max came with the two of them, and soon after Ash met back up with Brock, who also had a new outfit. Ash collected all badges for Hoenn and once again lost the Hoenn League. May also collected all ribbons but lost the Grand Festival. Ash and May both decided to compete in the Kanto Region, Ash being in Kanto the second time. Ash started the Battle Frontier and got all seven Frontier Symbols. After defeating the final Frontier Brain(instead of a Gym Leader), Ash was offered the position of being the final Frontier Brain. Ash decided against it to continue his Pokemon journey. May collected five more ribbons and lost the Grand Festival again. She then left on her own for contests in Johto. Max went back to Petalburg City, and Brock returned to Pewter City, his hometown. Ash met up with Gary and Gary suggested he go to the Sinnoh Region. Ash went with Pikachu to Sinnoh, and left all of his other Pokemon behind.
[edit] Extras
-Ever since the beginning of the Pokemon series, Ash has been followed by the evil Team Rocket, who is bent on stealing Ash's Pikachu away from him. Team Rocket is made up of an adult girl named Jessie (Musashi), an adult boy named James (Kojiro) and a talking Meowth( Nyasu). There are other teams in Hoenn, known as Team Magma and Team Aqua, who are rivals against each other but are both evil and a team in Sinnoh, Team Galactic.
-Pokemon: Diamond And Pearl is the series that began in the tenth season of Pokemon, marking the ten-year anniversery. It is regarded seperately as a series (similar to the different references of Naruto and Naruto Shippuden)
-Ash has changed his seasonal outfit three times, but has made over 50 costume changes throughout the seasons.
-Ash's Pikachu almost evolved once to win a Gym Battle for Ash back in Kanto, and almost evolved again in Sinnoh, but never did.
